Bureau Relationship with Taiwan Grows

Spurred by the Bureau of Economic Geology’s Gulf Coast Carbon Center (GCCC), the budding relationship between the Bureau and the research community of Taiwan continues to strengthen.
Recently, the GCCC hosted a delegation of 17 people from Taiwan’s government and from its academic institutions and industries. By all accounts, it was a very productive meeting. Areas of potential and further collaboration were discussed with multiple follow-ups planned in the near future.
Carbon capture and underground storage was the focus area of the visit, but discussions also included geothermal possibilities. “Taiwan has established a very aggressive geothermal development target,” noted Dr. Ken Wisian, Associate Director of the Bureau and Principal Investigator of its HotRock geothermal research consortium. “We intend to work with Taiwan universities to aid them in reaching their geothermal research goals.”
