This year’s Annual Bureau Research Symposium featured cutting-edge research across a wide array of topics, with twenty-three poster presentations and thirteen nano talks.

Bureau of Economic Geology State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) program research assistant professor Dr. James Thompson was instrumental in recruiting the so-far successful Texas-Soton team that was recently announced as one of only 29 teams worldwide to move to the next level of the XPRIZE Wildfire Autonomous Response competition.

Initial research using the Bureau’s new Leica Chiroptera Mark 5 airborne lidar system shows higher spatial resolution of topography, and deeper water bottom mapping in the nearshore environment, than the previous system could achieve.
