Description

In the United States, underground natural gas storage (UNGS) constitutes the world’s largest and most mature subsurface storage network. It plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of natural gas supply by storing surplus gas during periods of low demand and delivering it during peak consumption. This talk provides an overview of UNGS in the U.S., with a focus on the geoscientific characterization of storage sites in depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs, aquifers, and salt caverns, drawing on insights from a recently developed facility-level database.
