Description

This talk explores the potential of leveraging earth-abundant, iron-rich minerals in the subsurface environment for the simultaneous recovery of energy-relevant metals and the generation of geologic hydrogen through reactive CO2 mineralization. By coupling metal extraction with in-situ hydrogen evolution and permanent carbon storage, this approach offers a novel pathway for sustainable resource recovery and decarbonization. The presentation highlights recent insights into the geochemical mechanisms driving these transformations, emphasizing the role of mineral heterogeneity, fluid chemistry, and reaction pathways in optimizing co-production outcomes.
