2015 Annual Report

Various decades of the Bureau’s storied over-100-year history are captured by books like W. K. Ferguson’s History of the Bureau of Economic Geology, 1909–1960, Peter Flawn’s Texas Geologist and the Bureau of Economic Geology, 1949–1970, and William Fisher's Leaning Forward.

But for insight into the most recent Bureau activities, our 2015 Annual Report is a timely and detailed snapshot of the Bureau’s trending research and worldwide reach. The Annual Report provides an in-depth look at the latest vital research of our internationally recognized scientists. Included this year is information on important new Bureau initiatives, including a statewide seismic network and research program, a new core research facility, studies in the “water–energy nexus,” and in more efficient energy recovery.

Our report also includes comprehensive coverage of the Bureau’s many research consortia, ranging from computational seismology to energy economics to emerging nanotechnologies. Interdisciplinary research related to energy, the environment, and the economy yields important, practical information for scientists, decision makers, and the public at large. Despite erratic economies and volatile world politics, the Bureau’s focus on important research goals—and the dissemination of that vital knowledge—remains remarkably steady.
