Abstract
A glut of natural gas and the rapid emergence of renewables might suggest serious headwinds for this fossil fuel energy source. While renewables are displacing some of the growth of natural gas in the power sector, natural gas enjoys a critical and optimal role in supporting renewables growth. The United States provides insights into a mature power market where this symbiotic relationship is growing and may serve as a model for other very large, energy-hungry economies.
