Bureau Researchers Empower Next-Generation Geoscientists in Summer Program

August 22, 2024

This summer, nine Bureau researchers mentored students through the Jackson School of Geosciences Research Traineeship Experience (RTX).

The innovative training program provides undergraduates a paid opportunity to work alongside established researchers in the field for support and guidance. Students learn cutting-edge geoscience techniques, conduct research, and develop critical skills. The result is increased confidence and experience to achieve their academic and career aspirations.

Student research topics included ways to recycle green energy production materials, comparing different induction methods of earthquakes, evaluating emotional content of online discussions about carbon capture and sequestration, and other insightful contributions to knowledge of Texas’s geological and energy resources.

“The RTX experience can give undergraduate students a chance to engage in research activities and experience research themselves with a good support system,” Bureau program manager Ning Lin shared. “Most of all, I would sincerely like to thank everyone who helped make this experience possible, including Melissa Coffman, Erin DeConcini, the Bureau’s IT team, and Kim LaValley.”
