Bureau Researchers Honored at GeoGulf 2026
The joint GCAGS/GCSSEPM Convention and Exposition, GeoGulf 2026, was recently held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a number of Bureau of Economic Geology researchers were recognized with significant accolades.
Mariana Olariu and her co-author brought home the President’s Award for Outstanding Paper in the GCAGS Journal for their paper on “Geomorphic Evolution of the Paleogene Yoakum Canyon in the Northern Gulf of Mexico: Relationship with Coeval Wilcox Deltas and Implications for Basin Floor Fans.”
Xuesong Ding, Tim Dooley, Lorena Moscardelli, Mike Hudec and co-presenters were 2nd Place winners, and the team of Nur Schuba and Lorena Moscardelli, tied with the team of Lucy Ko, Rob Reed, Priyanka Periwal and Amanda Calle, were 3rd Place winners, of the Thomas A. Philpott Excellence of Presentation Award (2025) for their respective presentations.
Additionally, Bob Loucks received Honorable Mention for the Grover E. Murray Best Published Paper Award for an extended abstract that was featured in the 2025 GCAGS Transactions journal.
