Making the invisible visible through: 3D visualizations, fire and ice, and panning for gold, Bureau staff joined “Explore UT: Discover What’s Next” on March 5. Explore UT is a day-long celebration where students, teachers, parents, and community members from across the state experience hands-on research and scholarship in a campus-wide open house. The Bureau team of 17 dedicated volunteers engaged visitors with three activities including “Potpourri of 3-D Geology Visualization,” led by John Andrews, “What to Do with CO2: Cures for the Feverish Earth,” led by Dr. Sue Hovorka, and “Find Gold,” led by Linda Ruiz McCall. When asked why this type of outreach effort is important, Dr. Hovorka, shown above, said that it is very valuable for UT to show the public and the next generation of scientists where our current state of knowledge and key questions lie.”
