Abstract

Most of us would like to attract more research funding and translate our research results into the world, and some are interested in launching startups. Intellectual property (IP) protection is a tool to help you do that, and also potentially benefit financially. The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) is the “tech transfer” office at UT, which is responsible for securing IP from UT research and for licensing that technology for public benefit. Recently, OTC has put in place initiatives to engage faculty more actively to improve awareness of ways we can help them, and to be more in touch at an earlier stage with their research. The goal is to serve researchers more effectively, improve the quality and timing of invention disclosures, and use patents and copyrights to support research. Get focused actionable advice about whom to contact and when, how to identify IP, and how to use it to benefit your research.
