Student Research Initiatives

In addition to the permanent BEG staff, the project employs three Ph.D. students, all of whom are addressing some aspect of the data evaluation in their dissertation research. These graduate research assistants have been involved in the project from its beginning. Their work is being conducted in tandem with the overall project schedule to ensure that their work contributes to the overall project goals.

Adrian Badescu (Geologist)
Thesis title: "Integrating 3-D seismic, sequence stratigraphy, and reservoir properties to enhance secondary gas recovery of two major Miocene Gulf of Mexico offshore fields".

Adrian Badescu is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. His expertise includes database development, well-log and sequence stratigraphic correlation, and mapping. His previous experience includes 3 years of teaching at the University of Texas at Austin and University of Cincinnati, and one year with the Romanian Geological Survey, Department of Structural Geology. He received his MS from University of Cincinnati, specializing in geochemistry, and his BS from University of Bucharest, specializing in basin analysis.

Cem Kilic (Geologist)
Cem Okan Kilic, a Research Assistant on the Offshore SGR project, graduated from Istanbul University and completed his M.S. degree at The University of Texas at Austin. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at UT Austin studying neural network applications to seismic reservoir characterization and the integration of petrophysical data to reservoir modeling. His technical expertise includes petrophysical analysis (mostly siliciclastic reservoirs) and neural network analysis on well log applications.

Claudia Rassi (Geologist)
Thesis title: "Influence of Reservoir Character and Architecture on Hydrocarbon Distribution and Production in the Miocene of Starfak and Tiger Shoal Fields, Offshore Louisiana".

Claudia will integrate the OFM© production dataset into the sequence-stratigraphic framework and try to establish a useful database for predicting reservoir behavior.

Claudia is a PhD candidate at UT Austin and employed by the BEG as a Graduate Research Assistant since Jan. 1999. The research for her dissertation scrutinizes the hydrocarbon distribution within a sequence stratigraphic framework, focusing on the production performance of the systems tracts. Prior to her studies in Austin she was employed by the former Austrian National Oilcompany (OMV) as a production geologist. Claudia received her MSc (Magistra) Degree from Vienna University.
