Completed Study

Imaging Ultra-Deep and Overpressured Gas Prospects

The objective of this study is to determine the depths of the deepest targets that can be imaged with long-offset, 4-component, ocean-bottom-cable (4-C OBC) seismic data across large areas of the Gulf of Mexico. P-P and P-SV modes acquired at offsets of 9 km and 10 km are used in this investigation. The first principal study area covers 4,000 square miles of the Louisiana shelf (Shelf B area, Fig. 1). The seismic data used in this study are provided by WesternGeco, an EGL sponsor. Key acquisition parameters involved in 4-C OBC data acquisition across each major offshore area are listed in the accompanying table. The funding for this study is provided by the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA).
