| Turbidites: Sand transported down slope by turbidity currents. Commonly turbidites settle out in predictable patterns (Bouma sequences), where they evolve from massive bedded (A zone), to plane bedded (B zone), to ripple bedded (C zone), and to suspension bedded (D and E zones). Individual turbidites are from a few millimeters to a meter thick. Repeated deposition can form submarine fans. Rock types are thin-bedded grainstones. (Click to see photo examples 1 and 2.) |
