Reef-Crest Zone: This is the shallowest reef zone and it is the area of the highest energy as it is the buttress for the wave and wind energy. Corals and other organisms that can take this energy level thrive in this zone. The associated rock types are framestones and bindstones commonly with a marine-cemented grainstone matrix.
