EXERCISE 1: DUNHAM’S CARBONATE ROCK TEXTURE CLASSIFICATION

To complete this exercise, match the various rock samples to the correct Dunham’s rock texture classification by dragging the thumbnail image onto the corresponding rock type on the classification chart.

Double click on the image thumbnails to see a detailed captioned photograph and an important hint.

Example: If you determine the sample is a grainstone, then drop it into the box showing illustrating grainstone.

For the boundstones, try to figure out which type of boundstone it is by dragging the sample to the boundstone subcategories.
