Dr. Shuvajit Bhattacharya

Dr. Shuvajit Bhattacharya is a petrophysicist/geophysicist at the Bureau of Economic Geology. Currently, Shuvajit is involved in multiple research projects on unconventional resources, geothermal energy, carbon, and hydrogen storage in the subsurface. Shuvajit is primarily interested in developing new concepts and workflows in 3D seismic and petrophysical analysis for subsurface characterization and monitoring. Shuvajit has published peer-reviewed research papers, two books, and conference abstracts/papers related to petrophysical analysis, formation evaluation, quantitative 3D seismic interpretation (seismic attributes and inversion), machine learning, and integrated subsurface characterization. Shuvajit completed a Ph.D. in geology focusing on machine learning and petrophysics at West Virginia University. Shuvajit has an M.Sc. in Applied Geophysics from the Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai. Before joining BEG, Shuvajit worked with the University of Alaska Anchorage, Battelle, and other organizations. Shuvajit is the recipient of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists J. Clarence Karcher Award (2022) for “significant contribution to science and technology of exploration geophysics by a young geophysicist of outstanding abilities.”
