Charlie's research emphasis is on developing new approaches for the construction of sequence stratigraphic frameworks for reservoir characterization. He has been an AAPG Distinguished Lecturer and will head to the Middle East again in 2002 as an AAPG International Distinguished Lecturer. His research has won seven awards for best paper, including PBS-SEPM and WTGS talks and posters and the Wallace E. Pratt Memorial Award from AAPG in 1994 for best AAPG Bulletin paper. In 2000, Charlie was awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the Permian Basin Section of the SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology). He received the WTGS Distinguished Service award and was selected as the Qualline Lecturer at The University of Texas at Austin. He is the author or coauthor of 58 papers, 6 field-trip guidebooks, 46 abstracts, and 1 regional geologic map. His first digital publication on the Guadalupe Mountain region will be published soon as a joint publication by the BEG and AAPG.

Charlie has taught numerous short courses for companies in the Permian Basin, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Charlie's academic interests also include co-supervising M.Sc. and Ph.D. research with faculty at The University of Texas at Austin Department of Geological Sciences.
