CEE Think Day

The Bureau of Economic Geology’s Center for Energy Economics (CEE) brought together a broad group of its friends, advisors, and partners recently for its 21st Annual Meeting and “Think Day” in Houston—which proved to be a thought-provoking day, indeed. Those in attendance participated in spirited panel discussions, led by distinguished experts in their fields, on issues facing rapidly evolving global energy markets. Among topics featured were forces impacting natural-gas markets at all levels, post-election energy views, mineral resources required for battery enhancement, and economic trends in renewable and nuclear energy systems and technologies.

Electric-power changes, challenges, and policies were the focus of discussions led by Gürcan Gülen, Bureau senior energy economist and research scientist. The CEE also announced the formal launch of an important new research initiative, the Electric Power Research Forum (EPRF). The EPRF will invite partner firms to participate in its research, analysis, and dispatch modeling of U.S. electric-power markets and the many factors now influencing them.
