Bureau Researchers Receive Top Honors at GCAGS 2016 Annual Convention

Bureau of Economic Geology researchers received some prestigious honors at the recent 2016 Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies (GCAGS) Annual Convention held in Corpus Christi. Bureau director Scott W. Tinker was awarded the 2016 Don R. Boyd Medal for Excellence in Gulf Coast Geology, the organization’s highest award. Dr. Tinker was recognized with the Boyd Medal for his professional leadership in GCAGS and for his years of involvement in Gulf Coast Basin geological research.

Charles M. “Chock” Woodruff, Jr., received a 2016 Outstanding Educator Award “in recognition of outstanding contributions to the education and training of geologists.” The award also recognizes those who have inspired students and whose publications have exhibited creative thinking and analysis.

Shirley Dutton, Robert G. Loucks, and William A. Ambrose shared the 2015 GCAGS Journal President’s Award for Outstanding Paper for “Factors Controlling Permeability Variation in Onshore, Deep Paleogene Wilcox Sandstones in the Northern Gulf of Mexico Basin: Targeting High-Quality Reservoirs” (GCAGS Journal, v. 4).
