| The Bureau
is excited to announce the generous donation by Unocal of its
Sugar Land technical library now housed in the Houston Research
Center (HRC). The donation, valued at nearly $5 million, includes
books, journals, monographs, maps, and State and Federal geological
reports primarily in the areas of geology, geochemistry, geophysics,
and petroleum engineering. The materials occupy an estimated
at 6,600 linear feet of shelf space and weigh approximately
29 tons.
HRC geologists Laura Zahm and Beverly DeJarnett
led the effort to bring the collection to the facility. Their
efforts were augmented by staffer Randy McDonald, who coordinated
the recent renovations that were required to house the materials.
Unocal’s
professional librarian for many years, Phyllis Vicars, has
been hired to continue management of materials, which will
be made available to the public. |
