The Hawaii 5K was a charity event held to raise money for the fight against leukemia. This year’s beneficiary is 14-year-old Alyssa McCarty of Austin, currently in a courageous battle against leukemia. Alyssa's family and friends partnered with the Jerry Colwell Ministries, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Shoreline Christian Center, and RunTex of Austin to develop the Hawaii 5K Run & Fun Walk as a way to raise funds to fight the battle against leukemia. This year's event featured a sunset run and walk on a tiki-lit trail in North Austin. The event culminated with live music, food, and entertainment.
