The Applied Geodynamics Laboratory's (AGL) annual review meeting for its sponsors was held on October 24–25, 2001 at The Commons building located at UT's J. J. Pickle Research Campus. Nearly 70 oil company representatives attended the review. Sixteen technical presentations were given, including presentations by AGL scientists Dr. Mike Hudec, Dr. Bruno Vendeville, Dr. Martin Jackson, and Dr. Dan Schultz-Ela.

Among the highlights were technical innovations in physical and numerical modeling, the first module of The Salt Mine (an interactive atlas of salt tectonics), and initial results from deepwater Gabon (based on a large 3-D data set loaned by TotalFinaElf). David Jennette presented plans for his IA program on dynamic characterization of turbidite reservoirs and outlined planned collaboration with AGL. Frank Peel (BHP-Billiton) and Stacy Smith (ChevronTexaco) presented invited talks on Gulf of Mexico salt tectonics. The meeting was organized by Dr. Martin Jackson and Dr. Mike Hudec with considerable help from Sammy Jacobo and Joel Le Calvez.
