Raney  to Lead AGS Spring 2002 Field Trip

Associate Director Dr. Jay A. Raney will lead the Austin Geological Society's Spring 2002 field trip scheduled for Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until noon at McKinney Falls State Park.

This year's trip will entail a different format. It will be more low-key, less centralized, less expensive, and less time-intensive. Because of the trip's destination, proximity to Austin, and absence of the usual series of stops, we will NOT retain a charter bus. Instead, everyone will provide their own transportation to McKinney Falls. We encourage car pooling.

Park entrance fee is $2 per person. We will assemble at the Lower Falls Parking Area at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. A BEG guidebook written by Dr. Raney titled "Down to Earth at McKinney Falls State Park, Texas" will be available for purchase onsite ($6.50). Please call the Bureau's Publications Sales office at 475-9513 by Friday, April 19, to reserve your copy.

The trip will conclude at about midday. Bring a lunch and beverage and enjoy a picnic after the formal part of the trip. There may be an optional, informal, fossil collecting side-trip outside the park in the afternoon, depending on permission for access to private property. This trip is particularly suitable for non-geologists, spouses, friends, K-12 teachers, and the public. Everyone is welcome.
