South Monte Christo field, Hidalgo County, Texas. (R. B. Owen, 1962)
<Abstract>
One of the most significant gas-condensate finds during 1960 in the Rio Grande Valley was the South Monte Christo field, located some 16 mi. NW. of McAllen, Texas. The field now has 14 recognized gas reservoirs ranging in depth from 5200 ft. in the Upper Frio to 10,500 ft. in the Lower Frio. To date there are 9 gas wells producing from 13 completions with one well being completed. South Monte Christo field is situated along a chain of Lower Frio gas fields extending from the Mission field in Mexico 30 mi. NE. to the South Santellana field in northwestern Hidalgo County. All of the fields are downthrown on a large growth fault system and principally produce gas and condensate from the Lower Frio beds. Trapping conditions are mainly attributed to structural closure accompanied by stratigraphic elements.
