This latest publication in the Bureau's "Down to Earth" series takes an up-close look at the grandeur and natural beauty of one of Central Texas' most popular state parks. Seven separate trails are detailed, including those leading to the falls, overlooks of the falls, and even traces of early human habitation on the Pedernales River. Park visitors are invited to use the book as a guide as they explore the park's awe-inspiring panoramas. The full-color map in the back of the book is color keyed to the different rock formations encountered along the trails. The authors also point out the changes in florae that accompany the changes in rocks as the tour progresses up a mountain or down into the riverbed. Clues to the terrible power of the river's floods are pointed out, as are hints on keeping Texas rivers pristine. Hikers, picnickers, swimmers, and campers alike will broaden their enjoyment of Pedernales Falls State Park with this guidebook in hand. Forty-eight pages with 49 full-color figures. May 2003 |
