This training module introduces and reviews each of the major carbonate depositional environments on the platform margin, slope, and basin. Another module entitled “Platform-Interior Carbonate Depositional Environments” introduces and reviews the major depositional environments of the platform interior.

At the completion of this module, the student will be able to

1. understand the physical, biological, and chemical processes that affect platform-margin, slope, and basinal sedimentation;

2.recognize major platform-margin, slope, and basinal environments of deposition; and

3. recognize general rock types that are a product of platform-margin, slope, and basinal carbonate depositional environments.
