EXERCISE 1: DUNHAM’S CARBONATE ROCK TEXTURE CLASSIFICATION

To complete this exercise, match the various rock samples to the correct Dunham’s rock texture type by dragging the thumbnail image onto the corresponding rock type on the classification chart.

Double click on the image thumbnails to see a detailed captioned photograph and an important hint relative to classifying the rock.

Example: If you determine the sample is a grainstone, then drop it into the box illustrating a grainstone.

For the boundstones, you must select the correct subclass by dragging the sample to the boundstone subcategories (framestone, bindstone or bafflestone).
