Quantitative Clastics Laboratory
New Zealand Taranaki Basin
Click on images above to view larger. A new deep water study area for the QCL IA is the Taranaki Basin, New Zealand. Several thousands of square kilometers of high quality 3D seismic data and several well penetrations provide an opportunity to study a range of depositional systems (shelf sand bodies to deltaics to deep fans) in a tectonically transpressional setting.

Incredible imaging of morphologic details in these data enable very detailed morphologic analysis of deposits and development of predictive models that examine slope versus channeling density, sinuosity, etc. Units imaged in these data provide a three-dimensional preservation of units outcropping along the coast that are only 1D in nature.
