homeThis field trip is an “old favorite.” It travels west from Austin across Lower Cretaceous carbonates and sandstones into the Paleozoic and Precambrian terrains of the Llano Uplift. Along the way, the colorful frontier history of the region is recounted – tales of Indians and US Cavalry, settlers and cowboys, Texas Rangers and outlaws. The region has now become famous for its developing wine-producing industry. The field trip will stop at three Hill Country wineries, where the relation between bedrock geology, terroirs and wine-types will be discussed and evaluated. This trip is specially designed for those interested in geology, history and wine. Click photo to view larger.
