General substrate (soil) composition of the Orinoco delta plain. Note that the distribution of interdistributary basins with mud substrates
are predominantly in the south and southeast which reflects the importance of Rio Grande as a source of terrigenous sediment in the delta. The
vast areas of peat substrate in the central and northwestern delta reflect that most of the Orinoco delta plain receives little or no terrigenous sediment.
