- General substrate (soil) composition of the Orinoco delta plain. Note
that the distribution of interdistributary basins with mud substrates
- are predominantly in the south and southeast which reflects the
importance of Rio Grande as a source of terrigenous sediment in the delta. The
- vast areas of peat substrate in the central and northwestern delta
reflect that most of the Orinoco delta plain receives little or no terrigenous sediment.
