Hydrology of the Orinoco River. Stage at several stations along the lower Orinoco River. The near simultaneous peak
discharge along the river reflects the change from wet to dry to wet season across the entire drainage basin. Wet season
river discharge (measured in m3/sec) is typically 26 times greater than dry season discharge. This difference is much
greater than most other major tropical rivers (for example the Amazon wet season to dry season discharge ratio is only
2 to 3). This tremendous difference in Orinoco wet and season discharge is a major controlling factor in delta hydrology.
