Landsat TM image showing tidal influence near the mouth of the Orinoco River.  The main channel is bordered to the north by a mosaic of bifurcating and anastomosing distributary channels.  The channel density and elongate shape and orientation of large interdistributary and midchannel islands attest to the importance of tidal influences in this region.  Mean tidal range is 1.6 m.
