Dr. Jon Olson, and Ph.D. students Arash Dahi (PGE) and Aysen Ozkan (DGS/BEG) were recently selected for external fellowship support in structural diagenesis research. News | EMD Award Kira Diaz-Tushman, S. E. Laubach and R. Marrett received the AAPG Energy Minerals Division (EMD) Best Poster Award for Fracture Pattern Heterogeneity in Km-Scale Reservoir Analog Outcrops, presented at the AAPG Annual Convention in Houston.

 

News | EMD Award Julia F.W. Gale, R. M. Reed, and R. H. Lander received the AAPG Energy Minerals Division (EMD) President's Certificate of Excellence for Synkinematic Carbonate Fracture Sealing Cements in Opening-Mode Fractures: Characteristics and Models, presented at the AAPG Annual Convention in Houston.

 

News | National Meeting Organization Julia Gale is organizing the oral technical sessions for the 2008 AAPG Annual Convention.

 

News | Peter Eichhubl is co-author of one of the Top 25 downloads from Journal of Structural Geology for October through December 2005. Geological and mathematical framework for failure modes in granular rock appeared in JSG 28 (1), 83-98.

News | Distinguished Visiting Chair Jon Olson was in residence at Texas A&M University as Michel T. Halbouty Distinguished Visiting Chair. While in College Station he lectured extensively on structural diagenesis initiative results.

 

News | Invited Keynote Julia F. W. Gale presented Using the Link Between Diagenesis and Fracturing to Accurately Predict, Characterize, and Model Fluid-Flow in Fractured Carbonate Rocks at the 2005 Latin America and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Laubach, Olson and Marrett are co-authors.

 

News | SPE Forum Series Steve Laubach served on the Steering Committee for the SPE Forum Series meeting on Future Challenges in Carbonate Resource Development, October, 2005, Los Cabos, Mexico.

 

2004 Highlights

 

News | SPE Distinguished Lecturer Steve Laubach toured East Asia, Mexico, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas describing structural diagenesis research and applications to fluid-flow modeling.

 

News | Best University Research Award University of Texas / Geocosm won the award for the best university research based on a presentation at the US Department of Energy Symposium "Flow and Transport: from Pore to Reservoir Scales". Geocosm's Rob Lander presented "Predicting Fracture Porosity in Sandstone", a talk co-authored by Bonnell, Laubach, and Gale.

 

News | AAPG Distinguished Lecturer Linda Bonnell's tour featured results of research on fracture diagenesis.

 

News | International Keynote Address Jon Olson presented project results at the Naturally Fractured Reservoirs Symposium, The Geological Society of London, Burlington House.
