Experiment
Set Up
First, we set
up our experiment using a stream table. We put plastic in a shallow
wooden box to make it waterproof. We filled the box with sand, diatomaceous
earth (looks like flour), and water.

First, we set
up our experiment using a stream table. We put plastic in a shallow
wooden box to make it waterproof. We filled the box with sand, diatomaceous
earth (looks like flour), and water. Then each member of our team
took a job. The principle investigator listened to everyone's ideas
and then decided which ones to use for this experiment. The engineer
was the only person with hands in the sand. The engineer worked with
the sand to create the initial condition that the team picked.

One person had
to be solar energy. He or she scooped water from the ocean (this does
the job of evaporation) and poured it into a bucket (this does the
job of the clouds to move the water back to land).
On the next page
you can see the observations
that we made when we started running the experiment.
