As the conventional exploitation focused and funded research on high-energy, shallow (with the exception of turbiditic systems) deposits, the unconventional is now craving understanding on what happens below the storm-wave base. Such settings are generally regarded as low energy deposits, but deeper marine environments are far from being still and can be subjected to many different types of currents. This talk will aim to provide an overview of those bottom currents and their associated deposits and their implications for hydrocarbon exploration.
