Bureau of Economic Geology

Abstract:
The Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) owns overriding royalty interests in Wise County, where current production is from the Bend Formation (Atoka) and the Barnett Shale (Mississippian). The Bend production is mostly from old wells, some many dating to the 1960's. The Barnett production is from new horizontal, hydraulically fractured wells. Substantial future production is forecast from existing and yet-to-be-drilled Barnett wells. The basic Barnett geological elements and the methodology for forecasting future production will be described.
